Real Christians

The following is, I’m sure, not news to most.

Just the same, I thought that this note, redistributed by the Good News Network, was worth highlighting.

Veterans Form Human Shield to Protect Soldier Funerals From Protesters (Video)

Can you spot the real Christians in the video? Here’s a hint – they’re not the self-righteous people carrying offensive signs.

I’m neither American nor a supporter of war, but I do believe in the innate dignity that is imbued in each and every one of us as what we usually call “children of God.”

God’s family is not limited to a few people who follow some doctrine or dogma that some self-deluded preacher prattles from a pulpit.

God’s family is all-encompassing.

And yes, that means that even the hateful people of Westboro Baptist are God’s children.

They’re just not Christians.

I know some will argue that it’s not my place to judge who is, and who is not, “Christian.” However, as a Christian, I am called to “seek justice and resist evil.” Sometimes that requires simply naming something for what it is.

I’m often amazed at the lengths some will go to just so that they can continue to claim to be “tolerant” or “inclusive.”  While I appreciate the intent, I am reminded that the Gospel writers have Jesus make some pretty blunt statements about people who, at the time, would have been considered not just “in the club” but pillars of the community.

Should we, especially when a few people highjack the name of our faith for their own bigoted purposes, do any less?
