If it had not been the LORD who was on our side when our enemies attacked us, our enemies would have swallowed us up alive, … Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as prey to their teeth. From Psalm 124
However imperfect our witness to faith and obedience to Jesus Christ, we still stumble forward into the 21st century, for God is with us. Rev. John Shearman
John notes that this psalm may have been sung by pilgrims who made the dangerous journey to Jerusalem. He may very well be right.
But what does it mean to us today?
There is, as John notes, a larger vision in this hymn. For me it has nothing to do with asking God to protect me from wild animals or marauding robbers.
For me, the larger vision is the realization that Theos is not only “on our side” but more importantly, inside, every molecule of our being. Theos won’t keep us from being attacked, or from being injured or killed. But …
Theos will be with us as we “stumble forward.”
Thanks for your explaination. That is how I see God in my life. Being with me.
The expression, " There is nothing God and I can't handle" works for me.
God does not take over, and do, but works in my heart, mind and emotions to help.

Hi Sherron. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I really like the line above. I think it's a great summary of how our relationship with God works
