To Stand by Our Oath

O Lord, who may abide in your tent … who stand by their oath even to their hurt … Those who do these things shall never be moved. Psalm 15

The singer Shaggy released a song in 2001 called “It Wasn’t Me.” The premise was that if we deny something long enough, even those who know with certainty what we’ve done will begin to doubt themselves. “Standing by our oath” seems to be a little out of fashion.

While we may indeed succeed in hiding our actions from others, our relationship with God is not deepened by deceit or dishonesty.
